Flores de Mayo Highlights The Labor Day Celebration in the Holy Land

The Philippine Embassy held today the Labor Day Celebration and the traditional Flores de Mayo at the HaYarkon Park in Tel Aviv.  Around 500 Filipino workers attended the celebration, including 45 community organizations with their respective escorts and muses wearing traditional, regional and ethnic costumes.

Tel Aviv PE Conducts OAV Field Registration in Haifa

The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv successfully conducted its first ever Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) field registration in Haifa on 27-28 April 2012 with a final turnout of 170 field registrants, 20 registrants more than the earlier estimate made by Post. The first five (5) Filipino seafarers currently stationed at the Haifa port were also among those registered for the OAV during the field registration

DOJ Issues Advisory on Illegal Drug Couriers

The Department of Justice ("DOJ") issued an Advisory Opinion explaining to the public the issues surrounding the recruitment, arrest, detention and conviction of Filipinos caught transporting illegal drugs abroad. As with its previous Advisory Opinion regarding the basic rights of citizens in military/police checkpoints, Advisory Opinion No. 2 is in line with the thrust of the DOJ to take a pro-active stance in criminal justice concerns, including the issue on Filipino illegal drug couriers or "drug mules".

Filipinos of all ages gathered at Tel Aviv's HaYarkon Park early Sunday morning to witness one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year, the Flores de Mayo Parade and Labor Day celebration. Members of the various Filipino organizations in Israel came dressed as sagalas, escorts, and little princes and princesses together with their respective arches bearing Filipino words of wisdom decorated with ribbons, flowers and balloons.

Members of the 3rd Philippine Contingent to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) were awarded the UNDOF medal during a Medal Parade held today at Camp Ziouani in the Golan Heights. Advisory of the Department of Foreign Affairs to Families of OFWs in Libya

In view of the escalating violence and widespread insecurity in Libya, the Department is on a full relocation and repatriation mode. The Philippine Embassy has activated relocation centers in Tripoli and Benghazi for OFWs to stay in, unless they feel safe where they are, in which case they should remain there until further notice. The OFWs in the relocation centers will be moved to exit points where they will be transported out of Libya.

The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration conducted a half-day Leadership Training Workshop for Filipino community leaders.These leaders / participants came from different community organizations which are part of the Federation of Filipino Communities in Israel (FFCI), an umbrella organization. Community Leaders and participants came from different parts Israel, from Haifa in the North, and Jerusalem in the South.

Israel Announces Decision on Foreign Workers' Children
The Government of the State of Israel announced that it has reached a decision to accept the recommendations made by an inter-ministerial committee on the issue of the status of 1,200 children of foreign workers who have lost their legal status in Israel. There are six (6) guidelines that must be met in order for the Israeli government to allow children and their parents to remain in Israel.
