Filipinos in Israel Join the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

02 December 2012Tel Aviv – More than 200 members of the Filipino community in Israel gathered at the Terra Sancta School in Jaffa on Saturday, 01 December 2012 to witness the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event, which is on its third year, was organized by the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel in cooperation with the Parish of St. Anthony, Jaffa, Couples for Christ organization and Iremit Israel.

The event was also an opportunity for Filipinos in Israel to kick-start the Christmas celebrations in the Holy Land. A Choral Group competition was held with the Couples for Christ Choir emerging as the champion. Second prize went to the United Netanya Organization Choir, third prize to the El Shaddai Choir and fourth prize to the St. Anthony Choir.

Ambassador Generoso Calonge lauded the Filipino community for their dedication to their work and their families. He cited their efforts to maintain the Christmas spirit far away from home and celebrate the season in way that is uniquely Filipino. Ambassador Calonge also commended as an inspiration to the Filipino community ten-year old Angelica "Crisel" Ladrillo and six-year old Kathleen Sabo, both of whom presented musical numbers during the event. – END –
