Tel Aviv PE Urges Clarification Over the “Israel News” Allegation of Maltreatment of an Elderly Ward by a “Filipino Caregiver”

02 September 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel – The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, reacting over a news report from a Channel 2, requested clarification from the station manager over the alleged physical maltreatment of an elderly ward by a Filipino caregiver which was aired on national television on 23 August 2012.

"The Philippine Embassy deplores the act and maintains that the elderly should be accorded all the respect and care that their venerable age entitles them," Ambassador Generoso D.G. Calonge said in his letter to Channel 2. He added that the Philippine Embassy believes that the report was erroneous and that the alleged maltreatment was not committed by a Filipino caregiver.

In the interest of fairness and journalistic fidelity, the Philippine Embassy requests that the station should undertake a rectification of the apparently erroneous report because it stains the professionalism and negatively affects the reputation of thousands of Filipino caregivers in Israel who are known to perform their duties and responsibilities with tender loving care.

The matter has also been brought to the attention of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and requested it to assist the Embassy in requesting Channel 2 to undertake the necessary clarification or correction of the error.
