Philippines Unanimously Chosen as Head of the Asia and Pacific Regional Grouping in Israel

10 APRIL 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel – The Philippines was unanimously chosen to succeed Thailand as head of the Asia and Pacific Ambassadors Regional Grouping in Israel. The decision was made on 26 March 2012 during the presentation of the farewell gift to H.E. Nuttavudh Photisaro who completed his tour of duty in Israel.

It will be recalled that the Philippines will hold such position for the second time, and some Asian countries claimed that the Philippines has had in the past a good and commendable record in handling matters falling under the purview of the regional grouping.

Ambassador Generoso D.G. Calonge graciously accepted the position and expressed his appreciation to the Asian and Pacific Ambassadors for the opportunity and trust given to the Philippines. Ambassador Calonge said that it is an honor for our country to be bestowed the full confidence by our neighboring countries and promised that he would do his best in performing the duties and responsibilities entrusted to the Philippines. "In order to set in motion the programs and activities of the group, I have called an initial meeting on 23 April 2012 to discuss them in full detail," the Ambassador said.

The Philippines would now represent ten other countries with resident missions in Israel on issues of mutual concern with the host country. As a regional grouping, the ten countries will have a stronger network than their own individual missions. These countries are Australia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
